Re: What is most important?
I'd wager this is #1. Anyone who hesitates ultimately loses. You can't win without a desire to do so. It's all in your head, you could be armed to the teeth and know every martial art move in the book, but unless you're willing to conquer your opponent, you won't. You have to be able to be agressive. It's how i know i'll be responsible for both me and my wife in an incident. She's afraid of everything, doesn't have a brave bone in her body, unless i put it there.

Re: What is most important?
Lots of good responses here. To add to the willingness to use violence without hesitation, I think you need to be educated on when and most importantly, when not to use violence. If a person is unsure if they are legally permitted to respond to circumstances with appropriate force, they lose their chance to be first because they hesitate. Being first can tip the scales in your favor.
Face it, we all get old, have injuries, get sick, etc. Most of us are pretty average, as much as we hate to admit it. I started boxing when I was 15. The guy who owned the gym was a former Golden Gloves champ, Marine Corps. champ and pro fighter with a 16-1 record. He also had many street fights as a bouncer in crappy bars. His favorite quote was: "You can solve most problems with a good left jab, and being first".
I have also attended numerous seminars put on by US LawShield. I'm not hyping the business but they put on relevant classes on the legal use of force and related topics helpful to gun owners. There are likely other companies doing the same, but I'm only familiar with this one. You don't even have to be a member and most classes are $10. Hard to pass that up.
Again, I'm claiming no status as an expert on this subject, but I sincerely feel we are heading towards more danger in this country than ever before. I really want good people to stay safe and keep their loved ones safe as well.
