Default Berks' new ballot drop-box policies raise concerns

'It takes the joy away from voting.'

"It takes the joy away from voting and can also discourage people from participating in our democracy," said Diana Robinson, civic engagement director for Make the Road Pennsylvania.

Robinson is speaking out against a revised county policy surrounding ballot drop boxes. In September, the commissioners voted to require a deputy sheriff stationed at the boxes to ask voters if they are depositing their own ballots.
    .....
"People, especially in communities of color, usually don't have the best relationships with law enforcement," Robinson said, "so it's creating, you know, an atmosphere of fear."

This is so fucking dumb. If you can get out to a drop box to drop in an absentee/mail ballot, how about just going to a polling place to cast your ballot and be done with it?

It is mind blowing that some middle eastern and assorted other shithole countries have more secure and verifiable voting systems set up than the clusterfuck we've got going on here.
Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government.

I'm sure the AG's office will come after them for voter intimidation, just like they did here:

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I think the point is that some people want the drop boxes but do not want the cops verifying that you are only submitting 1 ballot and that the ballot is yours.

If someone honest was monitoring the process I think a lot of the aversion to drop boxes goes down.

But then the fraudsters just need to find that one box with one cop who is asleep in his car and load it up. (Saw that with my own eyes in Maryland in 2020. Walked by a drop box and the security guard they hired to watch it was curled up sleeps in his car next to it...making $20 a hour)

i get the idea that some people don't like the boxes being monitored because it effects them harvesting ballots. I like that they are going to be monitored but I'm also not really a fan of ballot drop boxes. voting has never taken me more then 30 mins ever.
