The article says construction started in March. They just need 2 days of no traffic to finish it and demo the old bridge.

I read all the time that our bridges are way past end of life. Suppose it's a good thing that some shit is getting fixed.

It's probably outsourced to the same Chinese construction crews that built hospitals in two weeks during the COVID scamdemic.

The TPK bridges are being replaced because they are widening the TPK.

Since everything is ready and all they need to do is extend the premade bridge and bolt it down, they should do like they did in Florida and assemble it during rush hour with cars under it.

It didn't work out well for the cars stopped at the traffic light that go squished but I think everyone on the TPK would take that risk for one second to avoid the many hours of a delay.

I regularly see cars go into oncoming traffic to safe a couple of seconds of passing me on my bike. People are stupid, and have no problem risking their lives and others to safe those few seconds.

    Goes with the wider tolls.

They did this same thing with a bridge about two miles South of this one back in 2017. They build a new roadway section on an elevated platform beforehand then remove the old one and slide the new one into position during the shutdown.

They call it accelerated bridge construction.

The construction technique being used, accelerated bridge construction, eliminates the need for months or years of single-lane traffic patterns and other motorist restrictions by closing that part of the roadway for a limited period over a weekend,* says the news release.

In the meantime, there is a bridge that can't be more than 50' long, between Cumberland and Paw Paw, just before you get to Paw Paw that they have been working on for years. I don't see how they are possibly stretching out whatever they're doing for so long, even going by govt standards.
