I have an SBR SP5 and it runs flawlessly. It will continue to hold its value because its an HK product. while the others do offer you a cheaper alternative to get into the platform, they may be a bit tricky to get warranty repair or replacement work done. I dont agree with the "century" name devaluing a gun as century has brought in some very nice rifles and pistols over the years but some have been turds as well. you just have to be educated on what you are buying. I have no experience with the AP5s but I passed on a couple that came into the shop as anything without a big end name will never fetch high end prices. bottom line is you have to be comfortable with what you want in the end. If you are looking for true plug and play capability with readily available HK parts, then the HK SP5 is your best route. If you ever need to sell your firearm, the knock off brands will never hold value since they were the budget gun in the first place. At the end of the day, if you are an HK guy then you already know its not a cheap game to be in and you probably aren't going to cheap out on stocks, mags, scope mounts, etc. If you are looking for a toy that you may pass on in a couple months or a year as it has lots its fun value, then an AP5 is your best bet. Either way, each platform serves a specific want. If you are looking for best return on investment, then go with the SP5. range toy, just for giggles...AP5.

Of course the HK will bring a higher return, it*s also 3x the price. I also agree that the HK is a better gun. Right now you can get into the MP5 game for about 1250.00 with the MKE clone, and for the most part they*re trouble free, sure there are some that have issues, and from what I*ve seen most are easily resolved with a couple factory HK replacement parts.

If I were strictly buying for investment it would be HK probably, but at the price of the MKE it*s hard to pass. If they were to stop importing them I*d say they would easily double or triple in value. It*s nice to get into the platform at current prices.

I recently bought a AP5-P and currently waiting for my form 1 to be approved. So far no issues as it shot everything I tried so far. Is it an HK, nope. It*s a solid gun at the right price, the only one made under HK licensing on HK equipment, although older equipment it*s still HK equipment. I could have bought the HK but I didn*t buy for investment purposes, I bought it to specifically SBR it, if you do that to an HK that will devalue it, no big deal with the MKE cause it was 3x less the price.

I'm an HK guy but on that one, I couldn't justify the price for something I want to shoot. If I was 32 and looking for an investment, I might be in. Instead, I got me one of the early MKE Zenith imports and thus far, it hasn't skipped a beat.

Agree, always wanted an HK MP5, glad the SP5 is available for anyone that wants one. As you said for a shooter and for me specifically to SBR, hard to pass on the MKE. I plan on shooting it a ton.

making an HK into an SBR does not "devalue" it at all. it simply makes it out of reach of the average person. but lets be honest, a $3000 to $3500 gun is already out of reach to the average person. if you want to wager your $1300 on "will it work or will I have to replace stuff" then so be it. thats the price you pay and what you get in return. its no different than buying a fiat and a Ferrari. they all get you to the same place, but they are just meant for different audiences. I wouldn't buy one of the copies that are flooding the market right now as I see them in stock at wholesalers all of the time. HK stuff....its like trying to pick a cherry out of an apple tree...finding an SP5 in stock at any time is non-existent.

The HK can easily be found, to me they*re not worth what they*re selling for, as with all things HK they*re overpriced imo. Do they make good stuff? Yes. Is it worth the price? That*s up to the buyers.
