Does anyone know why some people are instantly approved in PICS and others wait hours for a manual review?

I know the long delay is a manpower shortage (by design) but why are some people automatically approved?

I don't have a common last name and my background is squeaky clean. Like squeaky clean to the point where I wonder if I've missed out on life. I haven't even been pulled over for speeding since like 2006, and then I only got a verbal warning. (Side note...I definitely need to get out more)

The last time I went through PICS I had lived in PA for less than a year. Could that make any difference?

That might be your problem. Operator sees empty RAP sheet and says, "No way this is legit", and puts you into the long line.

I'm not sure. It's always been instant for me, but then my Polish last name is quite unique.

My name is pretty unique. Though I do get emails from some kid's teacher in Wisconsin who insist that I am in his math class because this kid has my name.
