Re: The Victims of Temple University
In my daughter's case, she was interested in biology and Temple has an excellent program. Overall the school is pretty good. While we knew that the general area surrounding the campus was extremely dangerous, we didn't know that the crime area had encroached right to the border of the main campus and how violent the criminals had become.
She said that she did not have any problems moving around the campus. She stayed on the main campus and did not go out at night. She took the train home on the weekends without any problems. The station is 2 blocks from the campus and the station and route to the campus is well patrolled. Commuting by car is a real problem. Parking is a scarce and you may have to park 2 -3 blocks off campus. A kid was shot and killed going to his parked car.
With that said, if a high school student asked, I would strongly advise them not to go to Temple. It’s only going to get worse. My son will be attend Drexel next fall.

Re: The Victims of Temple University
I graduated from Drexel, way back in the '70's! The neighborhood was never ideal and it has gotten worse since then. But the area is still way safer than the Temple area. As long as you don't stray too far north or west, you're fine at Drexel. You've got several blocks of buffer before you hit the really bad neighborhoods. With Temple its more like there is no real buffer, even quite close to campus. My son just graduated there, thank goodness! He heard lots of gunshots, almost on a nightly basis, but never took any incoming himself!
PS I wanted him to go to Ursinus in nice safe Collegeville. But he was insistent on Temple due to their strong medical/sciences instruction. I think he could have done just as well at Ursinus, but its all over and done now.

Re: The Victims of Temple University
I moved my daughter into drexel for her second year a couple weeks ago. She only moves around from building to building in groups or with a campus security escort. She hasn't been murdered yet. She has mace and wants to start carrying a taser.

Re: The Victims of Temple University
My lawyer is arguing before PA Superior Court, in a courtroom at Temple tomorrow. After discussing it with him and reading this, plus what I get off of Phila Crime Watch on twatter, I'm not going to attend. He says that it's not important for me to attend and the judges won't know if I'm there anyway.
