Default Looking for some hep making a decision

    Hi all,

Looking to get the son a nw rifle for Christmas. He wants something in a .308 or .270. I'm cheap. That being said, I'm looking for your opinions between these these rifles.

    1) Savage 111 in .270 comes with scope, pretty much ready to shoot.

    2) Marlin XL7 in .270, needs scope, rings, base, sling to shoot.

    3) Remington 777 in .308, ready to shoot.

    4) Marlin 30-30 ready to shoot with scope.

Without regards to cal. which would you feel is better and why. These are all within $50.00 of each other in price, with the exception of the marlin, as there would be extra costs involved for the rings, base and scope.

    Thanks,
    Tom

I like the marlin 30-30, but I don't know much about the others.

I am partial to the Marlin 30-30. It was what my Father gave me for my first deer rifle. My Daughter has used it the last two seasons.

    Be safe (and sentimental).

I did see that. That is mostly why thise were added to the list. The last few years my son has been using a Winchester 94 30-30 that his grandfather gave him. No he is seing the value of the pre 64 model 94s, and is thinking this was pap's gun, and I dont want it to get damaged. So he has hinted about wanting a new rifle.

You can't go wrong with either one. They're both decent weapons.

Savage hands down. If you can get one with an accutrigger, do it.

Light recoil, good balance and a LOT more raneg than a 30-30.
