How often do you shoot your carry gun?

I go through cycles, sometimes I go three to four months and sometimes I'll shoot it two or three times in a month. I don't usually do marathon range trips with my carry guns. I just had my Shield to the range yesterday, I only shot 50 rounds of FMJ. I had it to the range last month and shot about 50 rounds of defensive ammo.

I try to shoot at least 25 rounds, preferably 50 monthly, of my personal carry gun. I also try to rotate my duty gun in, too. Now that 9mm is mor reasonably priced, I may start alternating each month, 50 rounds each.

I shoot mine a few times a year for peace of mind. Once I fucked up and forgot to switch out my defense ammo and my buddy picked up a piece of NI plated brass and said, "OH, you're shooting your good stuff, eh". Motherfucker.

About 125 rounds a month in our local IDPA competitions.

Save for 2 spare mags I shoot and compete the same as I carry.

I probably average around 250 rounds a month mixed between different guns. My carry gun gets shot every 2-3 months then cleaned out. I actually just pulled it out of the holster this past weekend to clean the lint off and dust off the red dot. When I am shooting my carry gun I probably do around 75-100 rounds roughly through it.

A minimum of a 150 rounds every other month. I try to get out more but can*t always work it into the schedule.

If I go to long I find I forget the sweet spot for aiming and shooting it accurately. It takes me two or three magazines to start getting tight groups again.

I shoot my carry gun every time I go to the range…. However, that’s not so often these days, LOL! Since I was disabled in 2014, I’m no longer able to drive. So I only go when someone else is and they feel like picking me up, or if I’m training someone. (Still do on occasion. Once an Instructor always an Instructor. If it’s just me, it’s not any fun anymore…Paper punching. I used to shoot every single day. And train several people each week. Now, THAT was fun. As for staying accurate, gets to a point it’s like riding a bike I’ve found. The Covi nonsense was a good example. I didn’t shoot a single round for 2 solid years! Then I went with a newer friend & was training him. Was also when I first tested my current carry pistol that I built. First mag, first shot: right on target. Finished the mag with all shots where they needed to be. Course I’m not as accurate as I was, prior to being disabled. Not by a long shot! But I can still easily hit what I’m aiming at, within standard pistol distances.

And as far as the pistol, I regularly maintain it regardless of shooting intervals. My firearms don’t get a chance for dirt, lint & dust to collect.

Almost every time I go to the range I use it. Every few months will run some carry ammo through it, otherwise just regular ball ammo. Still, want to train with what I carry.

Run a mag or two every trip to the range. Not enough trips to the range though.
