Default Best 5.56 for HD in a apartment

I'm looking for a .223 or 5.56 round for home defence in my 2 bed room condo. I'm on the 1st floor, there are 4 units on each floor in a 3 floor building.

I need a round that won't penetrate through multiple walls where it can possibly hit my neighbors.
That being said, it also needs enough penetration to stop an armed or multiple armed attackers.

    What would you recommend?

    Not 223/556.

Maybe frangible rounds if that's your only caliber option.

Maybe something like Lehigh Defense Controlled Chaos rounds. ive used them in the 300 blk vs on deer and they drop them in their tracks.

One of the reasons I like the 5.7 for home defense.

Skip to about 3:20 for drywall testing.

You think the .45acp will be a better option?
Its not as loud, and less penetration with hollow points.

You can't have a round that penetrates and incapacitates a threat AND have zero risk of going through building materials.

First off, shot placement. Don't miss.

Then I'd maybe think a varmint type round - 55gr Vmax. Even 55gr regular ball isn't a terrible option. In the suburbs I have 64gr SPs loaded up. Not a bad option for you either.

Just whatever you decide, don't make it M855.

What barrel length? More velocity = less risk.

Regardless you have less risk than a pistol or buckshot round. So I'm a fan of .223 for HD.

There are a lot of YouTube demonstrations to consider in choosing a 223/556 for HD.

    Here's everybody's hero Jerry Miculek

I dont know, but I know a 556 will go places I wouldn't want it to go. Maybe a lighter load .45
    and hollow points.

    Right now its: 9mm 9x18 12ga bird shot/00buck .556 .45acp .25 .50bmg

I'd save the AR for a SHTF situation where it doesn't matter what it might go through and use a suppressed .45 ACP in your situation.
