The podcast makes a more compelling argument for the rendering aid thing. Or what to do to make the same point if you can't safely render aid. I found it interesting. Others may not. But to your point...'Merica!
Either way, I do appreciate the offering of the information. I get more info on what's going on here than I do everywhere else combined.

Most people are reasonable here too. Disagreements result in discussiona. (For important stuff. For unimportant stuff disagreements result in battles to the death)

And there is a lot of knowledge here that is freely shared.

Other gun boards do not that have. Some mock anyone who asks a question. Others refuse to discuss alternative viewpoints.

This is why you don't get near someone that's down.

Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

I have a fairly difficult time getting up or down to the ground.

Is it appropriate to apply pressure with my foot? My cane?

    Inquiring minds...

For you a tourniquet around the neck would work just fine :-)

When I taught First Aid to Boy Scouts, especially to Cub Scouts, I would offer the following scenario:

    • Your little brother has suffered a significant scalp laceration.
    • Direct pressure is not stopping the bleeding.
    • Where do you apply the tourniquet?

Those who had been around a while knew that "the neck" was the expected answer, given who the victim/patient was...

I consider it "rendering aid" if one calls 911. I don't see a need to further endanger my well being by approaching the downed subject.

Don't forget that you need time to calm down before calling 911 to make sure your head is straight and can give clear and concise answers to questions. 45 minutes ought to be enough time.

I would strongly recommend being the first one to call. And not answering ANY questions other than where I was and what I was wearing so cops knew who the caller was when they arrived.
