Man gets prison time in airport gun incident

A Georgia man has been sentenced to three years in federal prison for having a stolen handgun in his carry-on luggage at Pittsburgh International Airport.

Twenty-nine-year-old Joseph Bobbitt Jr. of Dallas, Ga., was also prohibited from possessing firearms because he was convicted of aggravated assault in Pennsylvania in May 2006. He was also sentenced to three years of supervised release in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh yesterday.

Authorities found the handgun as Mr. Bobbitt passed through baggage screening at the airport in February.

Mr. Bobbitt said the gun was his, but had forgotten it was in his bag. Prosecutors say Mr. Bobbitt also said he knew the gun was stolen.

He pleaded guilty yesterday to violating federal firearms laws.

God some people are just not right in the head. He was probably afraid to have it checked in with is luggage. thought he would get caught that way
