Buy a Kel Tec P50 or Diamondback DBX57 if you want something lightweight that shoots 5.7x28mm and can take a brace or a stock (registered SBR).

Believe me, I made a 2 year long story short. Originally the upgraded replacement was going to be the 3" LCR in .22lr, but that was in February. Early August I called and told them to just send me whatever they happened to be making that day.

Having watched the video completely (which I hadn't when I posted it), I have some thoughts...

I like the simplicity of the bolt and the ability to field strip quickly.
I hate the procedure for swapping the bolt handle. Could they have made it any more complicated? I thought maybe it was going to be like the PC Carbine where you can buy a second bolt handle and the then it's truly ambidextrous. Nope, it's some dumbass, convoluted process to change from one side to the other. My wife and I share guns, and she's right handed and I'm left handed. A fully ambi gun is great. Being able to swap quickly is also great. There are guns that you just can't and that's fine too. Would rather not have the ability than have it, but you have to disassemble half the gun to change reverse sides.
The gun looks like the carbine version of my Masterpiece Arms 57SST pistol. Weighs about the same. Takes FN Five-seveN magazines. Only I paid $350 for it brand new. Has been 100% reliable. I don't think the Ruger LC Carbine is worth almost $1k, or even the $800 Tanner's is asking.

So still just meh for me.

Along these same lines, how.much does a box of 22mag cost now?

22 mag and 5.7x28 are not even close when it comes to performance. Most numbers for 22 mag are based on a 16 in barrel, whereas most numbers for the 5.7 are from a Five-seveN pistol. If you compare apples to apples with regards to barrel length, 22 mag can't hold a candle to 5.7. Add to that the fact that 22 mag is rimfire, which is less reliable than centerfire cartridges, and 22 mag loses every time.

A better comparison would be 22TCM/22TCM9R or 4.6x30.

This guy had a similar mag problems as Tim from MAC. I have six mags for my Ruger 57 and so far they've been good. But I know quite a few others who have had problems with theirs. Something Ruger needs to get batter at making. Also, fuck Ruger for only including one mag with the rifle.

They are actually pretty similar. Similar weights and velocities from similar barrels, sorry but it's true, with a slight edge to 5.7. Although I agree I don't trust rim fire for defense.

Hornady V-Max 30gr tops out at around 1600 fps in the PMR-30 which has a 4.3" barrel. SS197SR from the Five-seveN is about 1750fps. So I'd agree that Hornady's best is comparable to FN's worst in speed, but not energy. The Hornady 30gr round is 170.9 ft/lbs of energy vs the 40gr SS197's 271.95. That Hornady 30gr load takes a 16" barrel to get to 2000 fps. If you want to compare 40gr to 40gr, there isn't a 22WMR cartridge on the market close to SS197 from a 4-5 inch barrel. SS198LF, however, which is 27gr, exceeds 2200 fps from the Five-seveN. And SS198LF out of a PS90 with a 16" barrel is 2400-2500 fps. Elite Ammunition's S4 averages 2500 fps from a Five-seveN, and 3400 fps out of a PS90.

So other than SS197 or AE5728 which are basically plinking rounds, nearly every other available round for 5.7x28 is faster and more powerful than 22 mag out of a comparable barrel length. When you get into boutique rounds like Elite Ammunition or Vanguard Outfitters, there is no comparison. SS198LF, EA S4 or T6B, or VO Black Fang should be what you're using for SD/HD.

OK, you pulled a switch-a-roo on me. I thought we were talking about these rounds out of the LC Carbine, which is a rifle. Do you work for CNN?
