I recommend the Charter Pathfinder. I have a 2", a 4" in 22LR, and they have remarkable triggers and have been solid performers despite the reputation that Charter has.

in that price range i would do with one of the new taurus 942 3inch models in 22lr or the lcrx 3inch 22lr (which I have and love, same with their snub)...
special note on the lcrx3inch you CAN use the 357/9mm fiber optic front sight because the rear is windage and height adjustable, just dial that in accordingly based on load of choice.
i dont see the point of anything less than 8rds of 22lr revolver; i like 3inch length for all-around use.
i came upon a steel model 63 cylinder and i am consdering adding a smith 317 to the pack and swapping out the cylinder for the steel one; in hoping to avoid any binding issues etc associated with the OEM, not much weight gain either - but that's above 500

I have a Taurus 941 4" 22 magnum 8 shot, It is perfectly reliable and accurate, it accompanies me on all my Kayak trips and has dispatched many a nuisance ground hog around the yard (burrowing under my sheds constantly) I may have to part ways with it as it is spending more time in my daughters hand than mine lately, I have stainless single six convertible for back up

if you still want a target / plinking pistol get something with a 4 inch barrel.
