Home Defense Selection (Question)

Lately I have been finding myself in a friendly debate more and more lately about what is the right firearm for home defense. The majority of the people that talk to me about it feel that a solid 12g is the best solution. I agree that for effectiveness its hard to beat, BUT has anyone ever shot a 12g in a dark room, in the middle of the night, with no ear protection? The flash alone would be blinding. I totally agree with the point of a shotty taking care of business, but is it really the best solution?

I have a nice riot piece that is stored for defense, but that is not the first one I am reaching for. I would be reaching for my 1911, less flash, less noise, and less recoil.


Anyways, I always love hearing different views on this subject. I really don't think there is a wrong answer, that's why so many types of solutions are made. How do you all feel?
