Question Sight Dovetails - right or left?

    Alright, y'all,

This may be better in the Gunsmithing sub, but I don't regularly visit there, so...

I have a Taurus PT1911 in .45 (two, actually) and am changing out the sights. I have the correct, Taurus-specific sights on hand and a sight pusher tool. What I can not remember, as it has been too long since I last did it, is from which side the sights should enter/leave the dovetail slots - assuming they are *very* slightly tapered from side to side.

Something in my brain says in and out via the left side. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Thanks

I think typically, it's out to the right (aka following the direction of brass ejection). But, on my HKs it's out to the left. Who knows...

Traditionaly in the gunsmith world they*re pushed in left to right and out right to left. That*s just a general rule and there are many exceptions. Also in terms of the Taurus 1911 specifically, the quality control is so abysmal that it probably doesn*t make any difference whatsoever.

I agree with the comment on Taurus quality. You should be fine. The tightest dovetails I have seen are from Kahr and they are TIGHT. Additionally, always go front to back... for hygiene.
