I would just use a moving company, I know it's an expense but it will take the hassle out of the situation.

Jezzz....it took me two fat old men and a woman to:

-unload 1000 lb safe from trailer
-roll it over several steps into the yard
-change direction and roll down hill (grass) some 50'
-change direction again and get it up 3 big steps
-change direction again and get it over a threshold
-roll it through the basement door and basement
-get it over another threshold into a doorway
    -stand it upright
    -maneuver it into final position

The company I bought my 800# safe from sent one guy with a lift gate. I paid to have it delivered into my basement, which I explained was easy as I have a Bilco door and it is a strait shot into my basement. But the skinny little guy from West Philly they sent had no idea how to get it into the basement. I got a neighbor and we helped him. I happened to have an appliance dolly that worked to get it from the truck to my Bilco door.

At one point, he had it on its back and ready to slide into the basement. My neighbor and I were pushing from below while he had straps and was "gently" lowering it. Then he said, "Look out." He thought he had it lined up to come right through my basement door, and he let go or just lost it..but he was wrong. It missed the door opening and it took out my doorframe. He was almost crying about it. I told him his bosses were assholes for only sending him. I let it go, gave him a few bucks for trying, and fixed the door frame myself.

Hire a pro that has insurance. Or, make sure you're friends are big enough to handle it.

Furniture hand truck and 3 guys can load a 550# safe into a pickup. We used furniture hand trucks to deliver 55 gallon drums weighing 700#s. You can probably rent the hand truck from U-haul, get the one with the extra set of small wheels that snap out and keep the load centered. This is how I got my Liberty from NJ to my new how here. When do you need to have it moved by?

Sell it in place and let the purchaser move it! Then buy a new safe at your destination and let the company deliver it!

When I relocated to Pittsburgh, I sold my existing safe where it was. Buyer moved it out of my house.

When I got to Pittsburgh, I got a 5x better safe for only $200 more than what I sold my old one for. It was definitely the way to go, but mostly because seller didn't understand what model safe he had. He had a much better one than he thought.

Oh, and seller delivered to my garage too.

That sounds great, but are you certain of the backgrounds of all of the employees who will be doing the moving?
The USA is now a banana republic. Only without the bananas....or the Republic.

Wait.. What?? People move their safes with all the contents intact ?

Otherwise, why does it matter? Someone will know where the safe is in the new house ?

A quick perusal of Youtube provided: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6TESTKwkRw

550 pounds isn't that much for the tailgate; two good-ole boys sitting on the tailgate weigh more than that.
