I don't even think the town I grew up in owns 4 trucks...I've only ever seen 2 of the small ones.

Our oldest daughter is a rural delivery person right now. When she was little, i.e. less than 10 years old, we lived in the city of Easton. The mail was a huge thing for her, and she would look out the window every five minutes to see if the mailman was coming yet.

Across the street and a few houses down there lived a retired mail carrier. Our current mailman at the time would stop and talk to him for close to an hour at a time sometimes. Of course, he had not hit our side of the street yet. Our daughter would go berserk when she could see him over there, and if she had a suspicion that he had mail for her. Now she is as militant as they come for observing all the rules and getting the mail to her customers as quickly as possible. At least she is conscientious about it!

As a general rule of thumb... for every inefficiency committed by a mail carrier on the street, five more inefficiencies wasting five times more time are committed by mailhandlers at the processing plants.
