Wife was discharged from the hospital recently. Today a rep from the visiting nurse company called, preliminarily to setting up appointments.

"Are there any guns in the home?" Yes, fifty-nine of them. "Is that a joke?" No. "Well...are they secured?" Of course.

"OK. There have been incidents". OH? Like what? "We're just following protocol". I see, you can't verify that statement. OK, yes, my wife will be home today. "Thank you. Have a good day". You too.

They are engaging in their version of safety regarding guns, but fifty-nine of them does not thwart their goal of obtaining work in the home. Interesting. I was so tempted to ask, "Men patients have penises, have there been any rapes"?
They also asked me about dogs in the home as one of their nurses was bitten.

I chuckled to myself over the word "secured", wondering if her version of it matched mine or anywhere near it.

I would consider caution re a dog a reasonable inquiry. "My dog does not bite" is a phrase well known to mail carriers.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

I'm reminded of the time a doc at Mercy Fitzgerald in Lansdowne, PA, pulled out his personal firearm and shot a psych patient after the psych pt shot and killed his case worker. Of course, the doc was carrying against hospital rules. Can't recall if he got in trouble for that or not (by the hospital, he was cleared legally).

    You actually answered the questions?

I might have said something like, 'what does that have to do with the fact that men can get pregnant?'
