    Default Montgomery County renewal procedure.

I need to renew my concealed carry permit at the courthouse in Norristown in the next four months. I wanted to fax my application but the instructions indicate they will not accept faxes.
Can it be done with one trip or do I have to make two.

Do they not have an on-line option? Philly does and it's very simple and way faster.

    EDIT:

wow so I went on the website and saw this:

    iMPORTANT: nEW PROCEDURES
    Directions to Apply and Pick-up

Make sure you read and follow each instruction!

********There is no same day issuance of permits********
********We do not accept emailed, faxed or mailed applications********
********We do not issue Non-Resident Permits********

You know it's bad when Philly's process is better. Also the typo in important new is theirs not mine.

There are about 3 threads on this already, but if you don't want to do it online, then yes it will take 2 trips. If you do it online, they do the background check and then you schedule to get your pic taken. You walk out with your card then.

Sorry I'm going off topic a little here.

As I'm not a lawyer, could the website be used as evidence against the Sheriff in a lawsuit from a non-resident applying for a LTCF?

    1) Apply online and set an appointment to pickup. You'll be in an out in 10 minutes. This is by far the easiest method. Will involve taking a picture of you DL and uploading to the website. I was able to set my appointment only a couple of days after submitting the online application, so they are well within the lawful timeframe.

    2) Dropoff a paper application and then return to pickup the license and take your picture another day. Not sure how long that will be vs. online and how they will get in touch with you to notify you of approval/pickup and setting an appointment. Perhaps by phone.

Note - the online system will ask for your current license expiration and only let you renew within 60 days. If you drop off, not sure if you'll get told to come back once you're at the 60 day mark.

My take? Wait until you're two months out, do it online with someone's help if needed, and then just pickup. Save gas for your license fee. Speaking of which, there is a price difference. $5 fee for online for $25 total. vs the $20 specified by law. So actually you'll be at a wash for gas vs. online fee.

They finished your background check in a couple days? Mine took about 1.5 weeks.

Maybe like 10ish years ago Philly did the same and lost a lawsuit and had to refund a ton of people $5 each

They probably get around it by charging $25 only for online apps.

I'd be willing to bet that's not legal and would lose in court

    100%.
Would be considered an additional tax or fee on a very clear cut law.
