Default No more Lake City ammo? - 2023 Update Post #22

    FJB

BREAKING: Biden Administration Moves to Cut Off Lake City .223/5.56 Ammo From the Commercial Market

A person with knowledge of the situation tells us that, more than just “considering” the move, Winchester, which operates the US Army’s Lake City ammunition plant, has been informed that it may no longer sell M855 and SS109 ammunition produced in excess of the military’s needs on the civilian market.

How would that affect the civilian supply of .223 and 5.56 ammunition? We understand that as much as 30% of the commercial market’s sales volume of .223/5.56 is produced by Lake City.

It's long been the left's plan to get around that pain-in-the-ass 2nd Amendment - keep your guns, we'll take your ammo. Guess I'm gonna have to start my reloading hobby.

If they want to lose their military contract then sure.

If they leave off the NATO stamp and box it pretty, maybe they can ignore The Commode in Chief.

I'm not sure the head of the executive branch can unilaterally tell a manufacturer that they may not make a product. If the fine print in the military contract is in the contract, shame on Winchester for agreeing to it. Let's face it, the government doesn't make anything. It needs to go to people who do. Now, if $$$$ made the fine print tolerable, that would make sense, so I guess that's the answer.

I expect that sales of overruns is figured in when the contract is bid so here's to higher prices for our gubment ammo. I reckon that now we'll see primed brass and scarred bullets in large amounts at the reloading vendors.

I would think this type of situation is common in contract manufacturing. You will make this for us, and only us. You can not sell this product to anyone else.

Of course, this particular customer just might have some ulterior motives concerning this particular product...

Yup, they don't want their enemies using it against them.
