No more Lake City ammo? - 2023 Update Post #22
FJB
BREAKING: Biden Administration Moves to Cut Off Lake City .223/5.56 Ammo From the Commercial Market
A person with knowledge of the situation tells us that, more than just “considering” the move, Winchester, which operates the US Army’s Lake City ammunition plant, has been informed that it may no longer sell M855 and SS109 ammunition produced in excess of the military’s needs on the civilian market.
How would that affect the civilian supply of .223 and 5.56 ammunition? We understand that as much as 30% of the commercial market’s sales volume of .223/5.56 is produced by Lake City.

It's long been the left's plan to get around that pain-in-the-ass 2nd Amendment - keep your guns, we'll take your ammo. Guess I'm gonna have to start my reloading hobby.

Re: No more Lake City ammo?
If they leave off the NATO stamp and box it pretty, maybe they can ignore The Commode in Chief.
I'm not sure the head of the executive branch can unilaterally tell a manufacturer that they may not make a product. If the fine print in the military contract is in the contract, shame on Winchester for agreeing to it. Let's face it, the government doesn't make anything. It needs to go to people who do. Now, if $$$$ made the fine print tolerable, that would make sense, so I guess that's the answer. There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Sure. They can't make it at Lake City Arsenal. I'm sure Winchester has other production facilities. In fact they could label all their stuff .223 Rem instead of 5.56 NATO
Here's Winchesters line of .223 Remington https://winchester.com/Products/Ammu...23c-9%22%5D%7D
Winchester’s manufacturing operations include a state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Oxford, Miss. and East Alton, Ill. From: https://winchester.com/Company/About

How do you suppose this will effect bids on the next ammunition contract? Chalk up another commodity the taxpayers will be paying more for.

Re: No more Lake City ammo?
I couldn't give that much of a flying fart about the "green tip." All the tests I've seen on it are fairly unimpressive.
It's more just the effect of taking that much production capability offline, and what effect that will have on the price/availability of all varieties of 5.56/.223. I have no idea whether or not Winchester can ramp up their other facilities.
