After a quick search there are 130,000 schools in the US. Even if you were heavily armed and sat outside "protecting" one 24/7 the odds are against you that it will make any difference.

Maybe the following would be of some slight comfort to you, OP. And it's from a liberal rag, no less. I don't have children (that I know of LOL), but I'd be more worried about them being a traffic accident fatality than a victim of one of these shootings, as awful as they are.

Don't let the mass shooters win

"But the risk of being killed in a mass shooting is also smaller than or similar to your risk of being struck by lightning. Definitions of 'mass shooting' differ, but between 85 and 373 people died in such incidents in 2018. Lightning deaths are extremely rare (20 in 2018), but there are about 400 lightning injuries a year."

It wouldn't necessarily be illegal. There is a defense that can be raised known as the 'other lawful purpose' defense.

You'd have to have a bit of a risk appetite and it would depend on your DA whether you'd get charged and have to raise the defense. Clearfield county you may not get charged... Fired, of course.

No jury in PA is going to convict you of anything if you whip out your gun and kill an active shooter in a school.

And any elected DA is going to need balls of steel to take that one to court.

I think the saddest point of this issue that an armed resource officer would probably cost a school about $125,000/year.

Most school blow more than that on frivolous crap every year.

Yes, but that's exactly why I have always said that the reason nobody does ANYTHING is because it takes effort of some sort and money.

It takes very little effort - and costs absolutely NOTHING - to shout "DO SOMETHING! BAN GUNS!"

Fixing the actual, underlying cultural issues will take work that nobody is willing to do. Just ban guns... THAT should do it!
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
