Re: How can I help protect our schools?
This!
We need more turf fields and COVID relief money to start GSA/LGBTQIA clubs, etc. But having armed protection? Out of the question.
Unless you and a group quietly keep watch 1001 yards away from a school building. But you will be noticed and likely arrested or red flagged as threats, not safety.
Not the worst idea I've heard.

Re: How can I help protect our schools?
You have none of the background or skill set to work armed in a school and you're pretty much aged out of getting them. Forget about any direct action of being armed at a school anywhere in Pa.
The previous advice is sound, keep your children out of public school. Home schooling is an excellent option. Other than that, vote in your local school board election and/or run for office on the school board.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Re: How can I help protect our schools?
Unfortunately nothing directly, you aged out of most police jobs i guess?(patrooper.com says before 40). Heres the deal, noone who is not police will ever be allowed to have a rifle with rifle grade body armor escort their kids to and from school, that's what is required. The first step is location, which clearfield seems pretty safe. Next is teaching you children avoidance and sheltering drills. Thats all i got sorry.

Re: How can I help protect our schools?
As was already mentioned solutions for the safeguarding of children in government schools while teacher unions run the schools is pretty much out the question. Save your money for a private school while you can so your children will get an education or homeschool. At this point there is nothing you can do to protect children in government run schools. They have made it this way for a reason as we've all just witnessed.

Re: How can I help protect our schools?
Yeah. The "take your kids out of public school" suggestions aren't based in reality for most folks, due to either location, expense, or both.
Things that you can do:
Run for school board. You affect the most change from within. I would have loved to been on school board. Unfortunately, being employed by the fed.gov, I'm unable to run in an election. If you can't get elected, at least attend the meetings.
But, more importantly, help to address the underlying causes. Volunteer to be a scout leader, a coach, or even a "Big" with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. Perhaps the kid whose life you influenced positively might have taken a wrong turn without you.
The shitheel that shot up Uvalde was the product of a whole lot of people just not giving a shit. If a few more of us volunteered a few hours a week to help out kids with shit families, perhaps there wouldn't be so many shit families in the next generation.Sed ego sum homo indomitus

Re: How can I help protect our schools?
Yeah, except I believe it would be, ummmm, kinda illegal.
Maybe the following would be of some slight comfort to you, OP. And it's from a liberal rag, no less. I don't have children (that I know of LOL), but I'd be more worried about them being a traffic accident fatality than a victim of one of these shootings, as awful as they are.
Don't let the mass shooters win
"But the risk of being killed in a mass shooting is also smaller than or similar to your risk of being struck by lightning. Definitions of 'mass shooting' differ, but between 85 and 373 people died in such incidents in 2018. Lightning deaths are extremely rare (20 in 2018), but there are about 400 lightning injuries a year."

Re: How can I help protect our schools?
I understand the sentiment of running for the board and contributing to the community, but those are very long term plans to make real change/progress.
Being a board president or even a superintendent won't mean jack if your kid is in an unsecured and unprotected location when a whacko goes off the deep end.
