Default Handing off Hand gun to Gunsmith

When you hand a firearm off to a gunsmith should you have some sort of record of this? It is not in your possession anymore.

    Thanks

I think they have to put it in their books then do a check on you when you come pick it up (so I heard).
My guy never did any of that with me though.

Pretty sure no background check with gun repair in that manner.

Cancel a consignment arrangement and it's background before getting it back. Which with me is ridiculous considering I have dozens more at my disposal.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

A firearm left with a gunsmith does NOT require a pics check when you pick it up.
I log guns into my gunsmith log upon acceptance for repair and give the customer a numbered, trackable receipt. That's just what I do, different gunsmiths may or may not issue some kind of tag or receipt upon receiving your firearm.

I have the customer fill out a numbered repair tag with their info and the guns info. They get the bottom part(numbered and dated), I get the top part which stays on the gun unless I have to take it off to do the work. I log it into my gunsmithing book with the info given. When they pick it up, no 4473 or bcg is required and I disposition it out to the owner.
