You don't think they thought of that ahead of time?
Suppose one does that and they get a Brace stamp. What happens when they want to sell it? Is it going to be a $200.00 tax stamp for the transfer? Who is going to want it? If someone is going to pay that amount might as well get the real thing.

I'm absolutely certain they are not concerned about that.

🤔 other than wanting to eliminate firearms or creating a list! The elephant in the room there's how many Millions of braces are in circulation × $200 ÷ Mega 💰 for the government.

That should help the DNC's war chest, via Ukraine.

I think the intent is not to register a brace, but more so to force owners of pistols to register them as SBRs at which point you might as well throw the brace away and put an actual stock on it

Can the brace not serve as an actual stock for the purpose of SBR?

Yup, that's the ATF's point- everybody and their brother/sister bought an AR pistol and slapped a brace on it and shouldered it proving "intent".

I was being overly dramatic with my suggestion to throw the brace away

My point was that it's not the brace or stock that is the registered part. You can swap them out for any number of reasons and the SBR is still the SBR

Sort of the way a VW Rabbit pickup can serve as an actual truck for the purpose of hauling large loads.
You can do it, but it's less than ideal.

Some braces are squishy and move around when shouldered.
Some are highly uncomfortable to shoot from the shoulder for any length of time.
Some are not shaped in a way that is ideal.

In short, a brace is not a stock and anyone paying $200 to use one as such is a moron.
And anyone "taking advantage" of registering their "SBR/brace" combo is also a moron - for even more reasons.

Hindsight is always 20/20 as they say but let's all admit it - if there weren't about 5 bazillion videos of people shouldering these things, it probably never would have come up on the radar of the lunatics running our asylum. Christ, why does everyone have to make a "look at me!!!" video nowadays?
Strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords, is no basis for a system of government.

Thank you. I think I've had my fill of people in the online space whining "but don't ya know brace is a stock and a stock is a brace and you know and I know what it is, blah blah blah"

Get tired of hearing that crap. The fact that these people go on like that tells me they really haven't used both at all and don't know what they are talking about.

A brace is just that, a brace. It provides an extra point of contact to assist with shooting but is nowhere near as good as a real and true stock.
