Parts of Virginia allow hunting deer with dogs.

But why do they get a pass?

What if someone feels their dog is useless if they can't fetch a ball at the time and place of their choosing? Do they get a leash excuse too?

Why can some dogs be off leash on someone else's property without permission, but others can't?

I only allow one older neighbor to hunt archery on my property. A relative of a guy down the road once came down my driveway to ask to rifle hunt. We had a cordial exchange, I said no, and he politely left.

The older guy who archery hunts says he sees the guy walking across my property, so we go out and put up some signs to 'clarify' the situation. Several days later this other a-hole comes not to the front door, but walks around back on my deck and I see him through the window. I rather bluntly ask what he wants, and he goes off about the signs and the previous owner always let him hunt, etc. (which is total BS). That exchange was not nearly as cordial.

I could certainly see those types creating bad situations.
I hunt. I never trespass. I don't know a hunter that does. People work hard to pay for their land and I respect that. The problem in Virginia is guys that deliberately run dogs across private property to push the deer off. They aren't just "retrieving their dogs".

Pennsylvania technically has no leash law (some municipalities do) Pa has an "under reasonable control" law.

I'd argue that if you dog doesn't come when you call it,
And you have to go get it, it's not under "reasonable control."

Once I get my 200 acres in WV, I can see issues like this.
I'll be diligently building some form of no-way-you-missed-it barrier on the property line, possibly clearing a multi-foot swath, clearly posting signs, and not taking any bullshit. I'll also consider selling hunting permits on my land.

Still considered Trespassing,Theres no caveat giving the dog owners permission to be excluded from law. The way to handle this is to Contact Game Commission to be escorted by them to retrieve the dogs within the law !
