Re: Tracking Hunting Dogs onto Private Property
I don't have an issue with the law in terms of allowing hunters to recover game they've wounded or to recover their dogs. Common sense would indicate you let the land owner know you were there and what you were doing.
Interestingly enough, the law requires that the person recovering game or dogs to disarm themselves before entering on private property. Good legislative thinking. Hunters are mostly assholes and like to beef with people-
And as a tough guy dog killer, I'm definitely lighting up aggressive, unattended dogs that are actively attacking my stock. I'd be happy to sort it out in court, after your dogs are proper in the grave.Crusader's local #556 South Central Asia chapter

Re: Tracking Hunting Dogs onto Private Property
Valid points, especially the one I bolded. Most think they have the right to go anywhere, even on posted land.
I only allow one older neighbor to hunt archery on my property. A relative of a guy down the road once came down my driveway to ask to rifle hunt. We had a cordial exchange, I said no, and he politely left.
The older guy who archery hunts says he sees the guy walking across my property, so we go out and put up some signs to 'clarify' the situation. Several days later this other a-hole comes not to the front door, but walks around back on my deck and I see him through the window. I rather bluntly ask what he wants, and he goes off about the signs and the previous owner always let him hunt, etc. (which is total BS). That exchange was not nearly as cordial.
I could certainly see those types creating bad situations.

Not Pa, attacking not chasing unless you are a Game Warden.
Pennsylvania state Game & Wildlife Code does allow for the shooting of dogs "by any person when the dog is found to be in the act of attacking a big game animal," the code states. If a dog is merely chasing deer, turkeys or bears, it can be shot and killed "only by a Game Commission officer"

Re: Tracking Hunting Dogs onto Private Property
We often have fox hunters come through, and the local people are extremely polite and have a skilled huntsman who is in complete control of his dogs. He keeps them away from our livestock. There is another group from a more urban area that are assholes and are not in real control of their dogs. They've been told that they are not welcomed here. I keep a .22 revolver loaded with 2 rounds of birdshot and 3 boolits handy when they're near, and my .22 WMR rifle is also close by.
Boy, I say boy, you're reaching the limits of my medication!
