Paid half price for a discontinued/difficult to find knife that was well cared for by whoever was dumb enough to take it to the airport.

I suspect the ammo is supposed to be destroyed, but likely ends up in someone's range bag after being documented as "destroyed".
I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

You can bid on TSA confiscated item here. Amongst other things.

Sort auctions by state that has a major airport.

    Traveling with firearms and ammunition

    Firearms must be:

    Unloaded
In a locked hard-sided container where the firearm is totally inaccessible
Rifle cases require locks on each end

    Ammunition must be:

In the original packaging from the manufacturer or in packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition (made of fiber, wood or metal), with a maximum of 11 pounds (5 kgs) per container or customer. Ammunition is not accepted loose or in magazines or clips.
Yup - you're responsible to check policy.
I also don't like how AA red tags your firearm bag BSO (baggage security office) to shout "GUN IN HERE" so you have to pick it up special - except when it shows up on the carousel anyway - I filed a report that day.

Best is when you can check-in in advance on the outbound - but after you declare the firearm the app does not allow you to check in early on the return because it knows you had a firearm on departure. Ummmmmmmmm----so I was any different on the outbound??/ More "feel-good" BS.

Fair enough, and I may have been complacent after several recent flights. Not sure if they changed their policy since my last American flight, the previous agent didn't know (or care), or what.

Just wanted to raise the issue to alert others.

    And bitch about something.

^^^^ This. I flew AA from PHL to Grand Junction last year. Would have preferred to keep the mags loaded in a 4-mag carrier, but there were zero other issues.

Delta has the same policies. Southwest let*s you have mags, loaded as long as the mags are cased to cover the entire round, so like a mag pouch.
