Default What to do if you are involved in a shooting...

Step 1: SHUT THE HELL UP

Step 2: Stay shut the hell up and get a lawyer who will confirm shutting the hell up was the right move

Step 3: Tell the lawyer everything. Shut up to everyone else.

Step 4: Remain shut up while the lawyer talks on your behalf.

This article is Alec Baldwin content. It breaks down his police interview where he was mirandized and for some insane reason continued to talk without a lawyer present.

If he wasn't getting special treatment (he probably is) he would have talked himself into a conviction by openly admitting to willful violations of law because he didn't really understand what he was talking about. All the things he thought were exonerating would all actually be helpful in convicting him.

Now this situation of negligent manslaughter is different than a self defense shooting folks on this board would be more likely to be involved in. But the Baldwin interview shows how shutting up is better than talking. You can't say something stupid if you don't say anything at all.

I thought that article was fascinating from a "legal rights" perspective.

Baldwin content aside, this was just a great read on why shutting up is always your best option.

The point by point breakdown on how roughly everything Baldwin said put him in deeper and deeper shit.

Always remember the cop knows more about how to get you to say something stupid than you know what things are and are not stupid

Good read. I for one just can't imagine not checking every gun handed to me. It's typically a way I expand on the first rule of gun safety - every gun is loaded unless you verify yourself. and STILL the other rules apply...
