Re: .22lr plinking pistol for 14 year old girl
I bought an SR22 for my wife a few years back. I like it, but it's picky on ammo. CCI flavors seem reliable in it, so that's all it gets.

My SR22 eats every 22lr without fail.

Re: .22lr plinking pistol for 14 year old girl
I recently acquired a Ruger MKIV 22/45 with the 5 1/2" barrel and an extra LITE upper for it. The 5 1/2" upper is muzzle heavy and is what I prefer. The LITE upper is for my wife as that is what she prefers.
Best bet is to take her somewhere to try the different models and she what she likes.

Re: .22lr plinking pistol for 14 year old girl
Maybe try a light weight semi auto like a Kel Tec P17 or a Taurus TX22. The Ruger Mk series are decent guns, but unless you opt for the lightweight version, they tend to be heavy. Not sure if the MK IV fixed the issues of the MK III, but the two I have were unreliable until I removed the LCI and upgraded the extractors on both guns. Even then, one is still ammo picky.
Single action .22lr revolvers are fun, but also heavy, and they tend to have crappy sights. The Single Six/Seven/Nine/Ten series of single actions have excellent sights, but they're also more expensive than say a Wrangler or a Heritage. Double action .22lr revolvers tend to have heavier DA trigger pulls due to the heavier hammer spring necessary to reliably set off a rimfire primer. SA is better, but still heavier than their centerfire counterparts.
Agree with other posters who recommended going some place where she can pick up and handle, and maybe even shoot, something before you buy.

Re: .22lr plinking pistol for 14 year old girl
My Taurus TX22 has never had a hiccup although probably under 1k rounds through it. Nice and light and 16 round mags offer lots of shooting between reloads. A little wierd disassembly but got used to it. Some upgrades are recommended for extended shooting like the steel recoil assy from Lakeline.

Get the w 22/45. Feed it the right ammo. Be happy.

Re: .22lr plinking pistol for 14 year old girl
The Ruger is a very good choice. But I don't think I'd go with the .22/45 because the grip angle is so close to the1911. Get the standard version.

Re: .22lr plinking pistol for 14 year old girl
My Ruger SR 22 has a smaller grip, easy ergonomics and a gentle, easy to draw slide. As West Chester said above...it eats EVERYTHING. I haven't had a misfeed yet in 400-500 rounds.
The sights are adjustable. External safety/decocker. Required no break in period.Sed ego sum homo indomitus
