    Default Legal troubles

A friend of mine racked up some charges. He had a bad day, and ended in two people who work for a business across the street provoking a fight. Both were dealt a beating, and later that night someone was tossing trash into a private dumpster, resulting in another fight. He was charged with 3 simple assault 18-2701. As the are M2s he's concerned about whether or not he is now prohibited from acquiring a firearm. He was convicted on all 3 misdemeanors. Not sentenced yet. I'm pretty certain he's barred from purchasing a firearm. Since a M2 in pa (unless a DV) which will trigger 922g ban, a regular simple assault shouldn't b/c it's a state misdemeanors, and max is 2 years. But he has 3 all from one day. I'm not sure if they run consecutive (3 individuals) or concurrent with one another. He asked if he was barred, I'm not 100% sure as I advised counsel. Is it worth it hiring an attorney to sort this out, or is this a simple, NO. Thanks!

Get council. They will play it down until it comes time to hand out sentencing then BAM. They will use every trick to paint him as a criminal in the highest degree. Our system is no longer working for us, it's working against us, and can't wait to put us in shackles.

They don't run consecutive. 100 million x M2 convictions will not prohibit a person(unless they are domestic violence).

If the M2's are the worst he has - he isn't prohibited.

However, while he is on probation/parole(if he gets time) - he wont be allowed to possess weapons as a condition of his probation/parole.

I thought that M2s that involved violence were prohibitors. No?

Only if they are "domestic violence". If I punch *you* in the face, I'm good, but if it's my wife, I'm screwed (if convicted).

I never understand why people with legal trouble go through the process and then worry about getting a lawyer for future issues with 2A rights. Get the lawyer from the get go as has been preached here from day 1 of the forum.

    Good luck to your friend.

Trying hard not to pass judgment here, given the posted facts are rather limited.

Of all the reasons to prohibit, demonstrated anger management issues that lead to assault convictions seems to be a good reason.

I agree. Somehow I've managed to go many years without getting into a fight.

Getting into fights with three people in the same day? Two separate instances? Getting into a fight over a dumpster?!?! Sounds like real self control, anger and/or judgement issues to me.
