School me on 80% 1911 building...
Looking for a new, more challenging build before the 80% stuff hits the fan. Poly 80s are nice, but i have enough built already.
I’ve handled and shot 1911s, but dont know much about them other than they are reliable workhorse combat pistols. Which is what i want to build (learning experience, challenge, etc)...
So where to start? Officer model? Commander model? I do want a double stack (or at the least, the ability to run staggered single stack mags). ~4” barrel and 9mm would be preferred, but not against 45acp since its a heavier gun and recoil is more manageable in 45 vs a poly frame equivalent

The 1911 is finicky in factory form, an 80% build will have you in fits.
Buy a Sig 1911 Nightmare and enjoy shooting it instead of unjamming itSigGendered

Takes away all the fun and challenge though...i dont plan to carry it, its a range toy and a learning experience to kill time tbh..and a reason to buy new tools router go brrrrt! Lol
Looks like i want a steel frame double stack commander model set up like a series 80/series 90 beavertail grip safety, judging by my googling
