    The checkered wood in your picture are target stocks and correct for the period. While not very pretty, the rubber Hogues you have on it are more comfortable for my taste.

    I picked this one up years ago. It was wearing Pachmayrs when I bought it. As I was leaving, the guy asked if I was interested in some take off stocks. I said sure… the cokes turned a decent deal into a sweet one.

    Okay so yeah the target stocks it came with are really beat up on the side not shown in the pic. I may look for another set, but will of course hang on to the holster/service worn originals.

    The smooth wooden grips appear to be Ahrends, which are appreciating somewhat in value, since they are no longer in business. Although they also appear to be for a round butt frame and if so, won't fit your 28 - but you could sell them and recoup some of the money you spent on the gun.
