Been watching this Charles Daly Superior Grade Case Hardened 1911 for a while and finally couldn't resist. A great value for the money IMO. Seems built well, Italian made, and decent trigger.
I never carry a 1911 but may give it a whirl

After shooting my buddy's M17 version, I decided to add this to my safe. I've got a subcompact grip frame with CT laserguard and a complete subcompact slide coming later this week.

Not purchased, but I think it's a cool story. Was at my gunshop today and an old lady came in with a box of ammo (old wooden Cuban candy box - she wanted that back) she wanted to get rid of the ammo. She said she was born/lived in Cuba apparently through the 60's or 70's before coming to the US. She said at some point after the Bay of Pigs, the military would have parades and the soldiers would hand out souvenir ammo to all the young girls on the streets watching. It was mostly 30-06 and 30 carbine. Some on strippers and some enblocs. My buddy let me take some, '53 headstamped 30-06 and then some 30 carbine. My mind instantly went to "was this captured ammo from the CIA failure? Will probably be my story anyway - lol. I love history, getting pcs. like this from the source and wondering. My buddy says it's probably suspect, he had heard the CIA scrubbed all headstamps from their ammo? Any thoughts? She wasn't trying to sell a story, just the facts that she wanted it gone, she got it from soldiers directly when living in Cuba. Either way, I like it

The clandestine ammo used for the Bay of Pigs invasion is pretty well documented and isn't hard to find. I have one of the .30-06 rounds in my cartridge collection.

You can read up on it here:
