    Question STRANGE REACTION !!

I was sitting here at the keyeboard voteing against the gun-ban thing going on in Cook's County. While I was sitting here,my neighbor's grandson poped in to say hello. He asked what I was doing and I told him I was voteing against the preposed gun-ban.I asked him if he had any interest in firearms
and he started to tell me that grandpa, dad, and his uncle were into shooting and hunting Etc. I got up walked into the bedroom grabbed my Glock, pulled the mag, double checked it was unloaded.I was going to show him and my wife got all in my face crazy.
The boy is 12 years old ,and he came over by himself,While me ,my wife, and my wife's mother were watch ing the news. Well, she looks at me and starts saying Nooo !! Noooo!! ???The boy leaves and she tells me that the boy is troubled ,boot-camp,etc.I tell her ,this is the time they should be taught,
The arm chair general,( my wife ) feels that since his father was not present,
I had no right to show him my Glock, I feel that I don't really know his father, someone should safely show them .My wife thinks gun safety should be left to the parent not me ! I believe ,it is everybody's responsibility ?

Do you think I was wrong ? My wife sure does !

    Me too.

You never know what's going on in someone's home and you never know how anyone will react when you make decisions on how their kids are exposed to things.

I think that talking about firearms/rights is, for the most part, OK.
I wouldn't "show" someone else's child how one works without them present, or without their prior knowledge/approval.

Too many ways it could go bad. Even if well intentioned.

I guess I don't think we have enough information to make a good call on what happened. I understand your wife's judgment, but am not siding with her.

How well do you know the young man? How often does he "pop in"? To me that implies that there is some sort of relationship that exists with the family. Maybe I'm wrong based on you having to ask if he was into firearms.

I will say that while we all have some responsibility in making sure the next generation respects and values firearms as much as we do it may not have been the best time or place to give a 'lesson'. Had you been at the range or if his parents had been privy to the conversation I'd say you would have had a better argument against your wife's reaction.

I don't have many friends with kids in that age group, but I can't think of one that I would pull out my sidearm without being in an appropriate setting or having parents around.
I think the founding fathers meant exactly what they wrote: the government should not make any laws restricting the RIGHT of the people to 'hold or retain in one's possession' and 'hold or carry' guns and other weapons that would allow them to keep their government in line.

Another vote with the wife, sorry.
I really don't think it's your place to expose a minor to guns without the consent of his or her parents. I understand where you're coming from it just wasn't the right time.

Since this is a boot camp thing , your wife is correct , and I am glad that she mentioned this to you ..

Apparently something is not as it should be with this 12 year old.

Yeah, your wife is right on this one. To many bad things can happen, no need for you to take responsability for it.

I can see the headlines, " 12 year old shoots friend, Parents say Gun Nut neighbor showed him how"....... not good...
