Assembled 3 ARs this weekend
It has been a few years since i built lowers with LPKs.
I was struggling with the idiotic blade screw to hold the handgrip on.
With a bit of tape on the screwdriver I could thread the screw up through the handle, but i could not keep it in place and get the detent spring positioned correctly.
After a couple of attempts, i remembered the mod to tap threads into the spring hole, trim the spring and use a set screw to hold the spring.
I dug out the bag that has 25 tiny allen head screws, the correct tap, and the correct wrench.
It was a piece of cake after that.
Took them out on the back porch and function tested. All 3 worked great.

Re: Assembled 3 ARs this weekend
I found a simpler solution was to buy a bag of 25 stainless allen head cap screws of the correct dimension and replace any slotted screws I come across. Then I carry one allen head T wrench in range tool kit
Usually all the handgrips I come across are a tight friction fit to receiver and can hold safety spring and detent in place while I add screw. As always a mag well block to hold receiver is the great third hand.
But you are right that the slotted screw is a pain to use and you have a workable solution.
I have recently used LPKs from three different vendors and all had allen head screws for hand grip. I suspect you are working off old LPKs that you bought cheap way back when?
