Pulled over yesterday - normal police behavior?
So, I was pulled over last evening because one of my headlights was out. No big deal. Now, the entire time the office was walking towards my car, and the entire time he was standing there talking to me, he had his hand on his sidearm, with his index finger down the side of the holster, like he was ready to draw. Now, I understand this while walking towards the car, but the entire time he talking to me? I found that a bit odd. Is this normal behavior?
ETA: I was carrying, but it was under my jacket. I never told him, and he never asked. This was in Sinking Spring, not in the city or anything. He did everything (taking my license, etc) with his left hand, and kept his right on his weapon during the entire encounter.Last edited by BerksCountyDave; November 10th, 2008 at 08:36 AM.

That seems a little odd. Has there been anything in the news in that area that may have made him more cautious in general (ie that he may have been acting that way with everyone and not just you)? How on earth did he write stuff down with only one hand? I mean, how did he hold his notepad or whatever and write on it with the same hand in mid-air? He didn't lay his stuff on your car did he???

I'd suspect it was standard procedure. The day he lets his guard down is the day he's gonna get blasted. He doesn't know whether you're honest Joe, or some drug crazed maniac. I don't know how those guys can do it night after night.

I never use my right hand to take a license, etc during a traffic stop. Its very bad tactics to have anything in your gun hand.

DUe, you obviously don't know many police. If you are not a sworn officer, you are one of "them". If you are, nothing you do is wrong.
