A loaded handgun belonging to state Sen. Marty Flynn, D-Lackawanna, that was reported stolen in lateJuly from his car was used five days later to shoot a man, Scranton police said.

Flynn reported the theft on the afternoon of July 28 but told police he last saw the gun July 21, Capt. Dennis Lukasewicz said. He told police the .357-caliber SIG Sauer P-229 contained a full ammunition magazine and was stolen from the center console of his 2010 Lexus GS350 parked outside his home, according to a police report cited in The Citizens’ Voice story.

It was several days after Flynn reported the theft that police say Alamin Woods, 17 at the time but now 18, used the gun to fire at least eight shots at Jesus Maldonado outside 1056 Pear St. in South Scranton, according to the story. Six bullets struck Maldonado, who survived the Aug. 2 attack.

When asked Thursday about the incident, Flynn said there was “nothing to talk about” beyond the information that police already had given out.
