Default San Jose Passes Nation’s First Gun Liability Insurance Law—Here’s What It Means

Gun owners in the city of San Jose, California could soon be required to pay a fee to the city and be required to carry liability insurance after city officials voted in favor of the measures on Tuesday, establishing the first local legislation in the country aimed at reducing gun violence.
    ...
The second part of the legislation, which requires gun owners to pay a $25 annual fee per household, passed 8-3.
    ...
San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, who says gun violence costs the city’s taxpayers $40 million annually, hailed the passing of the measure, calling it a “constitutionally compliant path to mitigate the unnecessary suffering from gun harm in our community.” Liccardo added that he looks forward to “supporting the efforts of others to replicate these initiatives across the nation.”

Absolutely unconstitutional. Nothing different from a poll tax.

Astute comparison. I'm sure it will eventually get shot down but am certain there will be no shortage of people lining up to pay their unconstitutional tax.

I think a more modern analogy would be imagine every prescription had a X dollar tax to offset what illegal drug overdoses cost the government.

What does one have to do with the other?

Obviously unconstitutional, but I'm sure other cities will try it as well before it gets shot down. Pun fully intended.
