AR takedown pin tool
The front takedown pin has always been my pain point when putting together an AR. Heard about the takedown pin tool on youtube and figured it looked great. It does definitely help but didn't work as magical for me as shown. Spring and detent still flew out 3 times on me before I put it down and went back to it after a few hours, then viola - lol.

Re: AR takedown pin tool
I bought a weavers armorers kit for the ar at walmart.com Its got everything to build a upper and lower.
I lost the little cotter pin that holds the firing pin in.. I have no idea how I lost it, put it in the cleaning bowl and it was gone.
I'm not going to order one, home dumpster has tons of them.

Re: AR takedown pin tool
Assembled my first one in 1992, tried every tool out there, made some my self, the only one that works every time is the AVID or it's Chinese Clone (Copy).

The correct diameter Universal Clevis Pin can be had at Lowes for 2 bucks and works just as well.

A tool is not needed. You need only proceed carefully.

Re: AR takedown pin tool
I can*t remember if it is KNS precision or Battle Arms Development, but they solve that issue with a neodymium magnet on the opposite side of the of the pin.
Edit: I should have just looked it up before commenting, it*s Battle Arms Development*s Enhanced Pin Set. The detents and channel are also slightly deeper.

Re: AR takedown pin tool
I used a chop stick. Easy peasey. Also used it to help push the pins out till they loosened up a bit.
You guys would fall out of your shoes and piss yourselves laughing if you saw what I use to put roll pins in. Works effin perfect. Made it from a hunk of scrap steel rod. Long, chisel thickness at one end (easy to hold!), thin at other and polished.
Dad was a deep coal miner. We was po folk. You would make it before you run out to buy it, if you even could buy it. Depression era parents. Would not trade my childhood for anything.
