Red dot nowhere in the window
Hi All,
Just checking in with the folks that shoot red dots. In the case of pistols i am aware that the red dot doesnt necessarily have to co-witness with the irons. However, in my case, the dot is nowhere in the window then i bring the gun up to eye level. I am used to seeing the dot somewhere when i line up the irons, however, this time it is all the way in the bottom right corner of the window. The firearm is a Staccato C2 and the sight is a Holosun 507k.
i have attached them here. Hopefully the pictures make more sense than my inadequate explanation.
I have a Glock 17 MOS where the red dot is in the same window when i line up my irons (they dont exactly co-witness but i can still see it when i line up the irons).Last edited by CobraCharmer; January 25th, 2022 at 04:01 PM. Reason: typo

Re: Red dot nowhere in the window
Mine did that once but it was the way I was looking into it, or holding the weapon.

Re: Red dot nowhere in the window
When you shoot with the irons aligned, where is the impact? When you shoot with the dot centered, where is the impact?

Re: Red dot nowhere in the window
Index is incredibly important with a dot on a pistol. You’re trying to relearn the iron sight draw that is ingrained in you. But it’s now amplified.
This may only be part of it. Shoot it and see where the thing hits. You may just need to adjust it. Or tighten stuff down.

G17 MOS sight picture.jpg
Here is the sight picture from the G17 MOS. This is after I adjusted the red dot at 25 yards off of a sandbag. This is what had me worried. I expected the Staccato to have a sight picture that roughly resembled this.
I guess I will try the following:
1. Turn off red dot and check where the Irons are grouping.
2. Turn on red dot and see where the impacts are.
3. See if i can get the red dot sighted in without bottoming our screws.
4. Upload a picture of where the dot sits on the glass with respect to the irons.
I will take the dot and the plate out today and check to make sure that there are no obstructions, etc. on any of the mating surfaces and tighten everything back down.
Can anyone let me know if there is anything specific i should be looking at while at the range?

Re: Red dot nowhere in the window
Make sure the plate is flat too. And fits flat without fitting. It could be sloped. I’ve heard of warped plates
