6.5 carcano
Picked up a beater 6.5 Carcano. Don't know much about them other than the history of the gun. Any thoughts on best ammo - 123 or 139 gr.?

Re: 6.5 carcano
I use Hornady 160 grain for deer, but I don't 2011-4 Carcano- old Best farm.jpgknow if they load it anymore. I have used a lot of different 6.5's over the years and 139 grain is fine. My sister found this one in a barn on a farm they bought. I scoped it, bent the bolt, and headed for the woods.

Re: 6.5 carcano
I'm curious to see the answers. I picked one up for under $150. I shot it once with a box of PPU. Thought of reloading for it, but the reality is I doubt I will shot it enough to make it worthwhile.

Re: 6.5 carcano
I haven't shot mine in a while, but I recall getting better accuracy with Hornady than with prvi partizan, even though prvi partizan was cheaper and easier to find. Prvi partzan (ppu) also uses a spitzer bullet, whereas the hornady uses the older style bullet with the rounded nose.
Three boxes of the hornady ammo cost me about the same as what I paid for the rifle!

I'm still on my first box.

Re: 6.5 carcano
The round nose is much better suited to this rifle than a spitzer*
I have a 1942 Fucile Facist Rifle and it prefers the round nose but the price isn*t worth it . I don*t shoot it enough nor will it be my first choice battle rifle .

Re: 6.5 carcano
I agree. My first shooting (the smaller calvary carcano) was surprisingly my most accurate, and that was with the non-spitzer Hornady ammo. After that I used PPU and was surprised when my accuracy significantly dropped.
It's low on my battle rifle priority list too, but for $80 I couldn't say no.

You do know those round tipped bullets are magic, don't you?
