Re: double rifles
Not for $1000. You need to spend a lot more for a double rifle that has the barrels properly regulated. You may want to reconsider caliber also. Last I looked, 416 Rigby goes about $7-10 a round for factory ammo. The brass is very expensive also.

Re: double rifles
$1000???? I dont mean to laugh, but... . BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!!!!
There are none. The only sub-$1K double rifles are the Kodiak's, a couple mid grade Italian, and the cheapo Russians. All of which are standard chambers for North America(30-06, 45-70, etc, etc).
All the rest go for starting of $5K-$10K, again starting price, for safari grade chamberings like the rigby.

Re: double rifles
If you have found a 455 Express rifle in .416 Rigby for $1300. Run and buy it. That would be the deal of a lifetime. The MSRP for a new gun is $36,000 for the field grade rifle.

Re: double rifles
that's the current msrp for a premium grade with engraving...field grades aren't nearly that expensive....they do start at the $5000 mark for a bare bones nothing gun...but the prices rack up quickly....I have a buddy who works at the beretta gun room in NYC who tracked this one down for me...the gun I found was made in 1990 which is first year production....price on a field grade then was $2173....im looking at the pricingguide from 90 rightnow....the guns aren't nearly they quality they are today and the one im getting need some work....it has been abused....

Re: double rifles
Buy the gun. You seem to have an in on it's history. I took the MSRP from Gun Digest 2005. It was the less expensive model. The other model - the 455EELL, described as the engraved model - was listed by GD at $47K.
Hopefully, the work needed will be at the 1990 price.
good luck with it. I have a Rizzini 90L express in 30-06. I bought it used (barely) and paid a lot more than what you are being offered. Nice.

WoW! $1300 for even a beater is a steal.
No need for you to bother playing the lotto, you just used up all your luck right there.
