Default New Caliber: Federal 30 Super Carry

    https://www.guns.com/news/2022/01/06...VyzoGMMw1mcdms

Federal on Wednesday announced a new caliber that is more compact than 9mm NATO and more effective than .380 ACP * the .30 Super Carry.

Calling it, "the most revolutionary advancement in self-defense history," the Federal Premium .30 Super Carry at introduction runs a 100-grain .312 caliber bullet. When loaded in Federal's HST profile self-defense line * with the 100-grain JHP reaching a velocity of 1,250 fps to pull down an energy load of 347 ft/lbs * the company says it has a .530-inch expansion and 15.5 inches of penetration in ballistics gel.

The key takeaway from the specs is that the .30 SC is slimmer overall than the 9mm, allowing more cartridges to be loaded per magazine, typically two more in the same length stick. For instance, in a Smith & Wesson Shield EZ that would normally have a 9mm capacity of 8+1, when available in .30 SC that capacity would grow to 10+1 rounds.

Besides the HST load, Federal is showing images of a 100-grain American Eagle red box target load as well as a 115-grain Speer Gold Dot. Other loads from Remington * owned by Vista, the same company as Federal and Speer * are likely inbound as well.

No thanks, I'd carry my tok if I wanted a 30cal carry gun. It'll barely survive in a small niche if and only if they pump out tons of ammo at release.

I could see this catching on In uspsa due to the extra 2 rounds. I’d get 26 rounds to start with in my carry optics gun. Some open guys could get 33

I might be interested in a year or two. But having to buy a bunch of new guns when I already have the latest/greatest 9mms is going to be a big hurdle. I think that's what they'll experience - when people have a P365 already, why bother with this. That's why they're comparing it to the 45ACP, they'll figure to get more converts from that than from 9mm.

Great, sarcasm btw. Another latest and greatest round to fill a need not needed. IMO manufacturing resources will be wasted on this one. They should wait until current demands for established calibers are met.

It sounds like something from Geissele Automatics.

Who doesn't need a super carry to backup their super duty?

Anyone know where I can find ammo for the 30 SC?

All the manufacturers are talking new items but NONE can be found.

Anyone seen any large rifle primers?

Maybe in a few years, when platforms have been proven reliable and ample pistols and ammo are available at reasonable prices.
