Need forend for ancient shotgun
I have an old black powder double barrel shotgun that was given to me. It's one of the old Belgian made ones marked with W. Richards. It is missing the wood forend.
It's not really a family heirloom, and it's not valuable. I was just going to hang it on the wall, but it looks goofy without the forend. Not surprisingly, I can't find one for sale. I'm guessing the cost to have one made would be too expensive for a worthless decoration piece? I wouldn't even know where to go to get a price. Any thoughts?

Most experienced gunsmiths could make you one for a reasonable price. Contact Fred at Carpers Custom Gunsmith in Washington, PA. This wouldn't be anything new to him.

Keep hitting the online auctions like GunBroker and GunsAmerica. W.Richards made a metric shit ton of shotguns. Not just under their own name, but also rebrands for other sellers.

Give Bill Yaeger at Stony Point Guns, in Camptown PA a call. He learned the trade as a stockmaker for Griffin and Howe. He might be able to help.

Re: Need forend for ancient shotgun
Thanks for the responses. I haven't found one yet on any of the sites posted, but I'll keep my eyes peeled. I will also check into those companies listed and maybe get prices to have one made. I suspect it will cost too much to make sense, but it doesn't hurt to ask.
