    Default Concealed Carry Permit Denial

    Hi everyone,

It's been a long time since I've posted here but I'm not really sure where else to look. I'm hoping some of you can give me some guidance.

I've had an LTCF for almost 10 years now. I'm coming up on my second renewal. I submitted my renewal application maybe a week ago and just got a certified letter saying that I was 'denied for cause'. There's nothing that should disqualify me. I haven't had so much as a parking ticket since I received my first LTCF.

It looks like I need to fill out form SP 4-197.

This is in Monroe County. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Have you contacted the Sheriff's office and asked what was the "cause" ?

No, I have not. Is this information that they would have on hand? Judging by the form I was sent, it has something to do with PICS (the title of the doc is PA Instant Check System Challenge).

edit - called and they couldn't give me any details.

Your profile says Sharon Hill, Pennsylvania(Delaware County) but you are renewing in Monroe County? Is your residence and DL in Monroe and have all renewals been Monroe?

Here is info on what may pop positive on the PA instant challenge system as well as how to contest it

    https://www.psp.pa.gov/firearms-info...formation.aspx

Of course that assumes that the problem was actually a PICS issue

In my experience (I have been there) the sheriff doesn't know why, he just gets a denial from PSP. He does however, have access to your information and he can look, if he is willing. If you are certain that something has not happened to disqualify you, you can file the appeal. If there is something there, I wouldn't file that because it could poke a sleeping bear that you'd rather not awaken. You say you're clean. I'd file the appeal. You only have a short period of time after the denial (I think it's 30 days) so don't snooze on it.

Denials will either be at the Sheriff's discretion, or because PICS denied approval. The letter should specify which. Which appeal mechanism applies is going to depend on which it was.

The PICS Challenge form should only be submitted if you're SURE of all of the answers; the form itself warns you that you face criminal prosecution for any unsworn written statements you make.

    Deadlines apply to either path.

Sorry, I'm on a phone and will have to respond individually.

When I first created this profile, I was in Delaware county. I have since moved to monroe and my current permit is for Monroe (effective jan 2016)

Thanks, I will look at this in the morning.

Thanks, I don't know how receptive the sheriff is here. If I need more help, I'll try to press further. I've been in no contact with law enforcement or the Justice system. I've been issued two ltcfs with no issue (one in Delaware county 2011, one in Monroe 2016). This is the first problem ive had.

Thanks, I understand it is time sensitive and the document is filled out, stamped, addressed and ready to be deposited.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I don't want to open it back up), but the written statements are punishable upon KNOWINGLY submitting false info. There's nothing that I can possibly think of that could disqualify me.

Thanks for the responses, it is much appreciated.
