Re: Drawbacks of Pistol to SBR conversion question
I thought you could un-SBR it any time you wanted. Am I wrong on that? I also read that you could put the writing on the barrel and an Uzi makes a great version because the barrel is easy to change. I would expect the same would go for an AR pistol.

Re: Drawbacks of Pistol to SBR conversion question
Wow! Thank you all for the comments. Having not started down the NFA road as yet, and for many of the reasons you all gave, I will keep the pistol configuration.
Another question, though...
Does anyone know the status of the ATF "scorecard" rules? Are we to use them to determine the legality of our AR/AK pistols?

No idea what a "scorecard" is, but you use the law to determine the legality of - anything.
It's either legal, or it's not.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Drawbacks of Pistol to SBR conversion question
As said, an SBR can be carried, loaded, in a vehicle as long as you meet all the requirements.
Putting your info on the firearm is not a big deal, it can be placed anywhere as long as it is visible. Many people put it on the front of the mag well, it's visible but yet inconspicious (how many people look at the front of the mag well?).
You can sell it as a pistol, just take the stock off, put a brace on (or just a padded buffer tube) and send a letter to the NFA Division asking it to be removed from the database as you have reconfigured it from a Title II firearm to a Title I firearm. It's not a big deal to them, you get a letter from them saying it's been removed in about 2 weeks or less).Last edited by Xringshooter; December 7th, 2021 at 07:35 PM.

Re: Drawbacks of Pistol to SBR conversion question
Well, by "scorecard" I sarcastically meant the AFT worksheet they proposed back in the summer for owners to use in determining whether or not an AR pistol is an NFA item. I know there was a public comment period happening as well as a letter sent by some Congressmen asking the to ATF to step back from the pistol brace question. But I haven't been able to find any information regarding the implementation or withdrawal of the worksheet. So I came here for some cursory guidance before contacting a 2A attorney. Unfortunately for me, the ATF classifications and directives are at best confusing and ambiguous.

Re: Drawbacks of Pistol to SBR conversion question
Nah... relax. It's not that ambiguous.
The law is the law.
Pistol braces are legal at the time of this posting.
If you have a specific question about what's ok/not ok, just ask.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
