Remington 1100 age and value question
Hello,
I inherited a Remington 1100 12 gauge and I am trying to find its age and value. It's at least 30 years old. It was my Grandfather's bird gun. The barrel has several chokes, imp, mod, and full. He also gave me a camo turkey barrel. The # on the receiver is N735171V. It's clean, the barrel does have some discoloration. Album Link (pictures weren't loading). Thanks for your help and expertise.

Here's a chart that might help.

Re: Remington 1100 age and value question
Thank you. I don't see any #s on either barrel, only the receiver, and the # on the receiver only has one letter then a number. Hmm. I'll keep after it thank you. Still curious about its value also.

Re: Remington 1100 age and value question
Using barrel codes (such as those listed above) to date the manufacture are reliable on Remington rifles, as the company rarely changed barrels on a customer's rifle.
Using these barrel codes to date a shotgun is somewhat unreliable, as shotgun barrels are often interchanged at random. One needs to be sure that the barrel is original to the gun before trusting the Barrel Code listing, above.
On 8/9/99, stopped stamping the barrels with the date code. They continued to mark the date code on the end flap of the shipping box. They resumed stamping the date code on the barrel on 10/1/01.Corruption is the default behavior of government officials. JPC

Re: Remington 1100 age and value question
Thank you. If I read the thread right the N signifies a build between 78-84. The V represents 12 gauge 2 3/4 shells.

Re: Remington 1100 age and value question
The manufacturer date codes are on the barrel not the receiver. Yeah, I know, stupid when you can easily change barrels on an 1100. The "V" on the serial number on the receiver indicates it's a 12 gauge full size frame for 2 3/4" shells. The date of manufacture if it's the original barrel will be here using the date code chart that both I and RL Suehr posted.

Here is my "CM" ( April 1992) 20 gauge with a "K" (20 gauge LW 2 3/4 shells only) receiver.

Re: Remington 1100 age and value question
OK. I pulled the barrel apart and underneath it said WC then a 2. WC I guess corresponds to August, then C corresponds to 56 or 82. I'd be shocked if this is from 56, my better guess is 82. Thanks for your help. From my other searches, it seems there are lots of these so the values are pretty low. I saw a site that said 500-800. On the side of the barrel, it said REP C. On the other side, just Remington arms ...

Choke tubes? Not from 56 then unless he did a custom upgrade with a smith.
It ain't what they call you, it's what you answer to.

Re: Remington 1100 age and value question
Yup, choke tubes = 1982. A nice reliable shotgun for a wing shooter. Target your sales pitch to hunter types rather than Tactical Tony. Extree barrels a plus. I'd probably start the price out at $850 and bargain down with the bargain downers to about $650 - $700.
