i still don't understand how wide the river is when the dam is down, nor how high the dam raises the level. looks like about 3-5'
but does it look like a river or a lake when open? is it simply shallower and just a bit of extra shore exposed?

Ok I gotta ask because I've seen you post about the Selinsgrove area before but your location isnt anywhere near here...what's the connection to the area? Nothing 'round these parts gets attention if you ain't from 'round here. Just curious.

The dam effectively does nothing to width, and everything to depth. The Susquehanna has deep banks through that area, mostly. It still looks like a river when it's up, but they call it a lake. Just deeper, of course. I'd guess 5-7' deeper?

i'd noticed the high walls and such in places and figured as such. just adds depth.
betting there is a very mild slope in from the bank rendering very little usable boating area when "empty"
