6mm is the smallest cal. you can hunt deer with.
For those late to the party(like me), there is no caliber restriction for deer. It just has to be centerfire.

There is a caliber restriction on elk, which is .27 caliber.

Use the rifle you shoot more accurately.
Use the rifle with the action more familiar to you.

If you use the .45LC, check out Buffalo Bore ammo.

A hot loaded .45 colt can come close (if not match) the original 45-70 rifle loads so why would you think it would be marginal for deer? Have you heard of an animal called a Buffalo?

But I agree the .223 is marginal on deer.......yes I said it.

If I remember correctly. The c z had a twist rate of 1 in 12. Optimal bullet weight of around 40 grains. Not my pick for deer. 45 lc would be my pick of the 2

The original 45-70 loads were black powder. In 1972 or 73 I bought a Marlin 1895 when they came back out with them. There is no way a .45 long colt would come close to the Winchester 405 grain ammunition I was using in the 45-70.
